Manual therapy includes:
Skilled palpation of soft tissues to identify areas of soft tissue damage, muscle imbalances, pain and stress.
Application of a range of massage techniques to influence muscular tone, reflexes and flexibility of the soft tissues and muscles to improve function and reduce pain.
Passive and active stretch techniques to improve muscular function, reduce pain and re educate muscle.
All these approaches require an in depth knowledge of functional anatomy, tissue healing and time frames and combined with an extensive knowledge of the horse to be able to apply these approaches effectively but whilst remaining in the horses confidence and trust at a time when he may be experiencing pain and confidence issues to assist healing positively.
